The new F-150 receives a mid-cycle refresh. With it comes new configurations, models, and powertrain options. This change is sure to make the F-150 an even more popular truck than it already was, so if you'd like to learn more about it, continue reading as we break down this model.

Trims

The Ford F-150 is available in six primary trim levels:

XL: This base trim comes with a fair number of amenities such as keyless entry, a class IV trailer hitch, a digital instrument panel, and a 12-inch touchscreen with Sync 4 infotainment system.

STX: The STX is equipped similarly to the XL. Though the STX has 20-inch wheels and carpeted flooring. It also has more optional features.

XLT: The XLT adds to the STX design with features like carpeted flooring, a power-adjustable driver's seat, and a 360-degree camera system.

Lariat: If you're after more premium features, the Lariat has you covered. Offered in this model are amenities like leather upholstery, heated front seats, ambient interior lighting, and an eight-speaker B&O sound system.

Platinum: As an upgrade to the Lariat, the Platinum offers a special exterior and interior trim, heated and heated rear seats, plus a Tow/Haul package.

King Ranch: The highest trim, the King Ranch, is equipped similarly to the Platinum while also offering a special two-tone exterior and interior, massaging front seats, head-up display, and a 14-speaker B&O premium sound system.

Several off-road-oriented trims are also available outside the main lineup:

Performance

For the new model year, the previous base V6 powertrain and the optional diesel engine have been removed. The once optional turbocharged 2.7-liter 325 hp V6 is the new base engine, and the remaining engine options remain unchanged. They include:

  • Turbocharged 3.5-liter 400 hp V6
  • Hybrid 430 hp V6
  • 5.0-liter 700 hp V8
  • Raptor-specific turbocharged 3.5-liter 450 hp V6
  • Raptor R-specific supercharged 5.2-liter 720 hp V8

Towing and Payload

The new F-150, with its various engine options, offers differing towing strengths. While every engine has a max payload cap of 2,455 pounds, Prescott drivers will get around 13,500 pounds of towing with the 400-hp V6. With the 5.0-liter V8 installed, Fort Scott customers will receive about 13,000 pounds of towing. As for the hybrid powertrain, this has an estimated towing of 12,700 pounds.

Fuel Economy

The EPA has found the new F-150 to be a fuel-efficient pickup. They found the hybrid version to be the most fuel-efficient at 25 mpg in the city and 26 on the highway. Meanwhile, the turbocharged 2.7-liter V6 earned about 20 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway. The twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 was the least efficient, with an estimated 18 mpg city and 24 highway.

Design

The exterior of the new F-150 is slightly altered, but it still retains that classic F-150 look. The interior, on the other hand, sees the biggest improvements, especially in higher trims like the King Ranch,

Platinum, and Limited models, where drivers will then get the most luxurious experience.

Every cabin is outfitted with convenience features and various cubby options, and there's an option to outfit the F-150 with fold-flat front seats to provide a place for sleeping. Additionally, the 10-speed automatic shift lever can be folded into the center console to create a large, flat workspace.

Technology

Offered with the new updated cabin is some new tech as well. For the first time, Lamar, MO, and El Dorado Springs drivers will find a 12.0-inch display in the cabin. This monitor has an improved version of Ford's Sync 4 software and features Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and a Wi-Fi hotspot. Navigation, SiriusXM radio, and a Bang & Olufsen stereo are optional.

Safety Features

To ensure you stay safe as you travel, Ford has equipped the new F-150 with numerous safety features. Basic features include lane departure warning, forward collision warning with automatic braking, and automatic high beams. Higher trims provide blind-spot warning, rear automatic braking, and adaptive cruise control.
